Roger Gual, born in Barcelona, made his feature film debut in 2002 when he co-wrote and co-directed SMOKING ROOM. The film received three prizes in Malaga Spanish Film Festival, including best script, best acting and the jury special prize. It was also nominated for the Fassbinder Prize at the European Film Awards 2003. The film received several prizes as best first feature in International Festivals including Valencia, Tudela and Karlovy Vary. And finally was awarded with the “Goya” by the Spanish Film Academy for the best first feature film. He also published the book Todo por un largo: Diarios de Smoking Room with the publishing house Libros Ocho y Medio in Madrid.
In 2005 he shot his second feature film, entitled REMAKE which opened in theatres all over Spain in April 2006 and was invited to several international film Festivals including Mar del Plata (Argentina), Montreal (Canada), Locarno (Switzerland), Helsinki (Finland). The main actor Juan Diego was awarded with a prize for best acting in the 9th Malaga Spanish Film Festival. REMAKE opened in cinemas in Argentina and France in March 2007 and received very good reviews from newspapers as La Nación, Le Monde and Libération.
In 2010 he directed the theatre play Mas alla del Puente which opened in Teatro Borras in Barcelona and Teatro Lara in Madrid with great reviews and big success in both cities and a Tour with more than 15 cities all over Spain that lasts almost two years.
His third feature film, is a Spanish-Irish co-production entitled TASTING MENU, starring Fionnula Flanagan, Stephen Rea and many leading Spanish actors, and was produced by ZENTROPA SPAIN. The film opened this year’s Galway Film Fleadh and will be distributed in the US later this year.
Roger has also directed TV and numerous commercials over the years.
