Originally from Portlaoise, Robert has been acting since childhood, making one of his debut appearances in Aisling Walsh’s acclaimed feature film Song For A Raggy Boy. Since then he has appeared in a number of feature films including A Dublin Story, Ghostwood, An Creatur and most recently Summer of the Flying Saucers. On television Robert appeared in all 24 episodes of Foreign Exchange (Magma Film/9 Newtwork Australia) as Cormac MacNamara and in all 13 episodes of Young Blades (Insight/PAX TV) as Prince Louis. More recently Robert has appeared in The Clinic (Parallel Films/RTE), Bel’s Boys (ITV) and in Season 2 of The Tudors (Showtime/BBC).
Robert appeared as series regular Addison Teller in Rock Rivals produced by Shed Productions for ITV. Robert also appeared as Liam in Bittersweet a new two part comedy drama directed by Declan Eames for RTE which aired in early 2008 and later appeared in the leading role of Dan in Martin Duffy’s feature for Magma Films Summer of the Flying Saucer in cinemas across Ireland.
Robert appeared in the recurring role of BJ in Red Riding, a trilogy of films based on the novels of the same name by David Peace – Nineteen Seventy-Four directed by Julian Jarrold, Nineteen Eighty directed by James March and Nineteen Eighty Three directed by Anand Tucker all for Revolution Films/Channel Four. Robert appeared all three films alongside actors such as Sean Bean, Paddy Considine and Peter Mullan which aired on Channel 4 in March 2009 to huge critical and popular acclaim.
Robert wrapped filming a leading role opposite Nicolas Cage and Ron Pearlman in The Season of the Witch directed by Dominic Sena for Atlas Entertainment/Relativity Media in early 2009 which is due for release later this year.
Robert recently appeared in leading role of Luke opposite Rupert Grint, Kimberly Nixon and James Nesbitt in the new feature film Cherrybomb directed by Lisa Barros D’Sa and Glenn Leyburn for Generator Entertainment/Little Film Company which premiered to considerable acclaim at the 2009 Berlin Film Festival and appeared at the Dublin and Belfast Film festivals and went general release in early 2010.
Robert most recently appeared in the leading role of Nathan in Misfits, the hit comedy drama produced by Clerkenwell Films for E4 which broadcast to rave reviews and record audience figures on E4 in late 2009 culminating in the series being awarded the 2010 BAFTA for Best Drama in June which Robert had the honour of accepting at this year’s awards. He recently completed filming (in Ireland) the leading role of Darren in Love Hate a new TV drama mini-series featuring Aidan Gillen, written by Stuart Carolan, directed by David Caffrey for Octagon Films and RTE and due for transmission in September 2010. Robert wrapped shooting the co-lead (Ivan) opposite Ben Barnes in a new feature film ‘Killing Bono’ directed by Nick Hamm in early 2010 which will go on general release in early 2011. He is currently shooting season two of Misfits which will air in late 2010, Misfits season one is currently airing on Channel 4.
