Biography – Originally from Gorey, Co. Wexford, Garrett graduated from the Samuel Beckett Centre, Trinity College Dublin in 2000. His theatre credits include Alone It Stands (for Lane Productions); Playing from the Heart (The Ark); The Field (national tour of Scott-Rellis Productions); Our Country’s Good, ‘Tis Pity She’s A Whore, Artists and Admirers and Attempts On Her Life (for TCD’s Acting Studies). Garrett appeared as Joe Lacey in Druid Theatre Company’s production of The Year of the Hiker for which he was nominated for a Best Supporting Actor Award in the Irish Times Theatre Awards 2006. Garrett also appeared in the same year as Blake in Druid’s production of Enda Walsh’s new play The Walworth Farce which travelled to the Edinburgh International Festival in 2007 where it won a Fringe First and appeared at St. Anne’s Warehouse, New York in April 2008 to huge critical acclaim. Garrett appeared as Kite in The School For Scandal directed by Lynne Parker at the Abbey Theatre and in The Glass Menagerie as Tom Wingfield opposite Francesca Annis, directed by Robin Lefevre at the Gate Theatre, Dublin.
Garrett’s film and television credits include Pure Mule (Accomplice TV/RTE, for which he was nominated for an IFTA for Best Actor for his portrayal of the character Scobie), Love is the Drug (Saffron Pictures/RTE), Alexander (dir. Oliver Stone), as Anton in David Gleeson’s feature film The Front Line and as Ray Hogan in Rough Diamond (BBC1/RTE)
Garrett reprised the role of Blake for the final time at the Royal National Theatre London, Cottesloe Stage, in The Walworth Farce for Druid Theatre Company which concluded its run in the Project Arts Centre, Dublin in December 08. Garrett went on to appear in the acclaimed production of All My Sons directed by Robin Lefevre for a record breaking run at the Gate Theatre, Dublin. Garrett recently appeared as Scobie in Pure Mule, The Last Weekend which aired on RTE TV in Autumn 2009 and was released on DVD along with the original series for Christmas 2009. Garrett most recently appeared as Biff in Death of a Salesman, directed by David Esbjornson, at the Gate.
