Hugo is an award winning playwright and writer for film and television. He has been selected as one of the writers on the Criterion Theatre’s New Writing scheme 2018 and is also currently developing original scripts for a TV drama series.
His first play, Mother, Father, Son was originally broadcast on RTE Radio One and BBC Scotland and then adapted for stage. It was performed at the Arches (Glasgow) and Traverse Theatre (Edinburgh) and was winner of the annual Arches Awards. Other plays include The Outing developed and performed at the Ustinov, Theatre Royal Bath, Citizenship developed by the Sherman Cymru Theatre, Cardiff and The Wild Boy, which was shortlisted for the Terence Rattigan Society Award 2017.
Hugo’s radio plays The Visitor’s Book and Doping Games were also broadcast by RTE with the latter winning Best Writing award at the prestigious New York Festivals’ World’s Best Radio Programmes Awards in 2013.
