
Cathal’s most recent directing credit is Enda Walsh’s Disco Pigs at the Young Vic Theatre, London. This production was the result of winning the JMK Directors Award 2011.
In 2013 he was associate director on Michael Grandage Company’s production of Privates on Parade by Peter Nichols at the Noel Coward Theatre in London’s West End and assistant director on the Old Vic production of Terence Rattigan’s The Winslow Boy directed by Lindsay Posner.
At the National Theatre London, Cathal was staff director on Lisa D’Amour’s Detroit directed by Austin Pendleton and William Shakespeare’s Timon of Athens directed by Nicholas Hytner.
As Zelig Theatre Artistic Director he has directed Martin McDonagh’s The Cripple of Inishmaan (Town Hall Theatre, Galway), Frank McGuinness’ The Factory Girls (Roscommon Arts Centre), Geraldine Aron’s double bill A Galway Girl and The Donahue Sisters (Town Hall Studio, Galway) and the world premiere of Pat McCabe’s Appointment in Limbo (Dublin Fringe).
Other assistant director credits include Martin McDonagh’s The Beauty Queen of Leenane directed by Joe Hill-Gibbins (Young Vic Theatre plus UK & Irish tour) and Roald Dahl’s Twisted Tales directed by Polly Findlay (Lyric Hammersmith plus UK tour)
