Screenwriter Andrew Kirk’s original feature film screenplay The Messenger is currently on release in the UK. It stars Robert Sheehan, Lily Cole, Joely Richardson, Tamzin Merchant and David O’Hara and is directed by David Blair. See The Messenger trailer below.
Andrew started his writing career in the story office of the ITV 1 soap Emmerdale. Working his way up to Story Editor, he moved onto the writing team thirteen years ago and has been a regular contributor ever since, writing close to two hundred episodes, including a number of hour long ‘specials’ and the 5000th anniversary episode. He has also twice acted as Story Producer to oversee the development of a number of major storylines.
He won the first BBC ‘Northern Exposure’ competition in conjunction with the West Yorkshire Playhouse, with his screenplay Without You starring Lennie James, Stephen Graham and Nicola Stephenson. The script impressed judge Stuart Murphy so much that he commissioned it to be part of BBC 3’s launch schedule.
Andrew has also written and contributed to shows such as Holby City (BBC1), River City (BBC Scotland) and The Chase (Rollem Productions for BBC1). His ninety minute film The Gift was developed by BBC1.
Andrew was also Executive Producer on Snodgrass, part of SKY Arts 2013 Playhouse Presents season, written by David Quantick, directed by David Blair and starring Ian Hart. Snodgrass was voted in the top three Time Out TV Moments of 2013.
