Des Bishop can now speak as gaeilge. After twelve months of study and immersion in Connemara’s Gaeltacht, he can now claim a rite of passage in Ireland, in speaking the native tongue. Drawing from his experience, Des has been performing his latest stand up show Tongues, to sell out audiences across Ireland. Filmed LIVE in Vicar Street during the tour, Tongues will be available on DVD through all good retailers from Friday, 14 November. With over 2 hours of brilliant stand up material including plenty of uncut extras, Tongues is the one DVD to purchase this Christmas.
Des Bishop’s latest stand up DVD, Tongues is made up of two parts, Tongues and Teanga. Filmed in September 08 Part One is Des’s exploration of his own identity. With his unique form of blistering observational comedy he covers issues such as Irish Catholicism, illegal immigrants and recent trips back to America. Part Two Teanga (in English) was filmed in February 08 and offers plenty of deep rooted laughs about Des’s experience learning Irish in Connemara, including his struggle with the Modh Coinniollach, idiosyncrasies with the Irish curriculum and a performance of Jump Around as gaeilge.
Prepare yourself for some fresh and highly provocative comedy, as a comedian at the height of his game demonstrates with unparalleled energy and comic genius the very nature of his identity. Tongues, the ultimate laugh this Christmas.
“…marks his true development as a comedian and an Irishman.” Irish Times Magazine
“Des Bishop has done for the Irish language what Jamie Oliver has done for food — made it sexy” Evening Herald
