Dermot is best known for his regular appearances on RTE’s hit show The Panel and has performed at the Kilkenny Cat Laughs Comedy Festival and the Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Other TV appearances include Liffey Laughs for RTE television and One Night Stand-Up for BBC TV.
Dermot presents The Republic of Telly on RTE Two on Mondays at 10.25pm, taking a wry look at what’s happening throughout Ireland and the world.
He also co-hosts the weekday afternoon ‘Dermot and Dave’ show on the hugely
successful Dublin radio station 98FM.
His comedy creation, the Toll Trolls, have had 3 top ten albums and went double platinum.
Dermot is especially proud of his acting success. He appeared in the 2003 Irish comedy classic Spin the Bottle as Garda # 2. He had two lines: “C’mon now, Son” and “Move out of the way there, Son”. Genius.
“The equally youthful Dermot Whelan has energy to spare. With his mildly camp wide-eyed confusion at life, the lad from Limerick comes across like early Ed Byrne possessed by the ghost of Frankie Howerd, eventually pounding each inch of the Stand stage as though Jason Byrne was auditioning for Feet of Flames…His blarney is worth taking a punt on.” The Scotsman
