Biography – Born in Dublin, Paul graduated from the Gaiety School of Acting full time Diploma course in June 2004. Since then he has appeared in Love Is The Drug as Toby, directed by Darren Thornton for Rough Magic Films/RTE 2, and as Shane in Stephen Bradley’s feature film Boy Eats Girl (Element Films) with Samantha Mumba. Paul made his theatre debut shortly after leaving college in Pilgrims in the Park, directed by Jim Culleton for Fishamble Theatre Company and shortly afterwards appeared in their hugely popular production of Monged by Gary Duggan, also directed by Jim Culleton, at the Project Theatre, Dublin. Paul also appeared; as Rodolpho in Mark Brokaw’s highly acclaimed production of A View From the Bridge by Arthur Miller at the Gate Theatre, Dublin, as Paul in The Gist of It directed by Jim Culleton at the Project Arts Centre, in Vincent Wood’s new adaptation King Ubu directed by Monica Frawley for the Galway Arts Festival 2006, the remounted tour of Monged with Fishamble Theatre Co and as Lt. Petritsky in Anna Karenina, directed by Michael Barker Caven at the Gate Theatre. In 2007 Paul toured to Tazmania, across the UK and to the Riverside Studios, London in The Corn Exchanges acclaimed production of Dublin By Lamplight directed by Annie Ryan and appeared as Gregor in Metamorphosis directed by David Horan as part of Once Off Productions Rep Experiment in the Dublin Theatre Festival Fringe for which he was nominated for the Best Actor Award in the DTFF 2007. Paul played Segismundo in Life Is A Dream, directed by Tom Creed for Rough Magic and in Season 6 of The Clinic on RTE1. Paul appeared in the title role of MacBecks for Long Road Productions and MCD at the Olympia Theatre and Cork Opera House and also appeared in the Gate Theatre’s production of Les Liasons Dangereusees directed by Michael Barker-Caven. Paul recently appeared in his second season as the series regular lead role of Dylan in Season Two of RAW for Ecosse TV/RTE.

Paul most recently appeared in Man Of Valour, his new one man show developed with Corn Exchange Theatre company over the last two years with co-creators Annie Ryan and Michael West at the Midsummer Festival Cork. The show transferred to the Traverse Theatre (Traverse 2) for the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011 prior to appearing in the Dublin Theatre Festival Fringe. The show has already garnered some extraordinary reviews, as in The Irish Theatre Magazine’s “Superbly directed by Annie Ryan, this is a virtuosic performance by Reid, who brings Blinks, and the numerous other characters he encounters, to life.” or the Irish Times “This Corn Exchange production is both daring and gratifying…Reid creates a cast in this one-man performance, his transformations sometimes, as in the graveyard scene, achieving the status of transfiguration.” and the Irish Examiner gave the show five stars and said “Paul Reid, is magnificent…he conveys a scary, and at times comic, world through finely-honed physical movement in the company’s trademark commedia dell’arte style.” Paul returned from a sold out run at the Traverse Theatre as part of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2011 where he received an exceptional number of four and five star reviews for the show, see here for more. The show went on to be the hit of the Dublin Fringe Festival in 2011, securing four and five star reviews in the national press and winning a nomination for Best Male Performer for Paul and Best Production and Best Design for the production.
