Biography - Born in Dublin, Gemma made her professional debut in The Drunkard for Bespoke Theatre Company, directed by Lynne Parker at the Olympia Theatre and on tour. Since then she has appeared as Anya in Patrick Mason's production of The Cherry Orchard at the Abbey Theatre, and as Clara in Pygmalion directed by Alan Stanford at the Gate Theatre. She made her Druid Theatre debut as Sara Tansey in Garry Hynes' production of Playboy of the Western World at the Perth Arts Festival, Australia and since then appeared in that role as part of Druid Theatre's acclaimed production DruidSynge in which she also appeared as Nora in Riders to the Sea and as Deirdre in Deirdre of the Sorrows for Galway Arts Festival, the Olympia Theatre, Dublin and the King's Theatre, Edinburgh as part of the International Festival, Edinburgh 2005. Gemma reprised these roles in DruidSynge when it visited the Tyrone Guthrie Centre in Minneapolis and the Lincoln Center, New York as part of the Lincoln Arts Festival in 2006 to considerable acclaim. In 2006 Gemma also appeared in O Go My Man, a new play by Stella Feelihy, directed by Max Stafford-Clark at the Royal Court Theatre and on UK tour. In Film and Television Gemma has appeared as Rachel in Ronan Glennane's feature debut Pride and Joy and as Beryl in Malice Aforethought for Granada Television. Most recently Gemma appeared as Sister James in Doubt directed by Gerry Stembridge at the Abbey and as Maria in Jimmy Fay's acclaimed production of The School For Scandal on the Abbey mainstage. Gemma is currently appearing as Mary Warren in Patick Mason's acclaimed production of The Crucible at the Abbey Theatre, Dublin.
